Testimonials

  • Great support

“In a nutshell, as well as being invited and inviting, it’s the personal contact. I really appreciated Dr. Odoh, local physio people, and young students who were there. I also appreciated the weekly phone contact with the nutritionist.” –Paul B., Houston

  • So very grateful

“It’s been a bittersweet day today. I’m probably going to ramble but there are too many words and thoughts that I want to express. How do you adequately express gratitude to those who made such a positive impact on your life? Today marks the end of my one year participation in Change BC! Today I had my last assessment and I won’t lie, the tears almost rolled and I am still getting a bit emotional. I had been dreading today a little as I’m going to be honest it’s been a little emotional knowing I’m done. I can’t thank Truman, Olivia, Payton, Dena and Dr. Chan enough for helping me change my life for the better. Thank you especially to Truman for being there all the way from start to finish. For a full year they showed up for me consistently, created a safe space and helped me to show up for myself. Their time, knowledge, kindness and willingness to help is absolutely priceless. I value them and their time and it helped me to stay consistent. A whole year went by way too fast. There have been so many victories that can be measured and so many victories that are priceless. My health and mental health have received the biggest benefits. Without the whole team of kinesiologists, doctor and dietician some medical issues that have blocked me for years would not have been addressed. For example being diagnosed with PCOS, having insulin resistance and being pre diabetic. For years I struggled with energy and weight gain even though my diet is healthy and even with exercise over the years. I no longer suffer with chronic back or hip pain. Losing some weight has been an awesome bonus for me. For example my shirt size has gone down from a 2X to now an XL or L depending on the fit. It’s been one of the hardest years of my life but also one of the most rewarding. Our family has suffered more than our share of big losses this year and I honestly think if I didn’t have the Change program I’m sure depression could have definitely created more issues for me. I’m also so thankful for the support from my family and friends. The moral support, motivation and meals on those busy days where work, workout and other responsibilities were hectic made life easier. It helps to hear Truman say I am ready and armed with the knowledge and momentum to keep going with my physical activity and goals but he will definitely be missed. I’m so thankful that I will be able to join group workouts for the summer so it’s more of a transition out. We are so fortunate to have such a program come to the Nass. I’m so very grateful and blessed to have had the opportunity to participate." –Kathryn K., New Aiyansh

  • Truly thankful

"I’m moving more, I feel happier, energetic and I love who I am becoming with confidence I might add.

The exercises were designed to be at a gradual pace, with a clear understanding of the movement and form we targeted muscles groups to help develop and tone. The CHANGE BC team, Truman and Olivia conducted themselves with great compassion and understanding without discrimination or judgement. Not to mention instilled fun in every connection we had.

The Nisga’a Culture teaches us, to pull up the ones who are reaching. We few have reached, and we have been pulled a quarter of the way. Our Culture teaches us, when you instill hope in others it is our obligation to see it through until the wings begin to open, and flight is in action. This is when you know complete change has occurred. Pulling someone up only part way leaves room for slippage and sometime that slip could result to failure, and loss of self. As a First Nation person, reaching for help takes much courage. Having both Truman and Olivia present monthly will further inspire and encourage our group as well as complete the Cultural obligation.

I continue to be amazed and I am truly thankful for this opportunity. Thank you and your team for standing in strength beside us as we move forward toward change. Change for the future and filled with positive energy. – Tracey M, Nisga’a Valley
